Main Exhibit Galleries at JFK Library to Close Temporarily

The main exhibit galleries at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum will be temporarily closed for technology and design upgrades from December 31, 2014 through March 27, 2015. The project, which was announced in May 2014, will include overhauling and adding to the existing museum technology infrastructure, creating an interactive, dynamic experience for visitors to learn about John F. Kennedy, his era, and his administration.

Boston MA – Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, yesterday presented the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award™ to Former President George H. W. Bush at the former President’s home in Kennebunkport, ME. The award was given in recognition of the political courage Bush demonstrated when he agreed to a 1990 budget compromise that reversed his 1988 campaign pledge not to raise taxes and put his re-election prospects at risk.

Kennedy Library Honors Solomon Islander Who Helped Rescue JFK During World War II

BOSTON, MA – In honor of Eroni Kumana, the recently deceased Solomon Island native who helped rescue John F. Kennedy and his PT-109 crew following the boat’s collision with a Japanese destroyer during World War II, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum has made a piece of “kustom money” that Kumana gave to the Kennedy family part of the museum’s permanent exhibits. Kumana passed away August 2, 2014 at age 93. August 8, 2014 marks the 71st anniversary of the PT-109 crew rescue.

New Display Captures JFK’s Summers on Cape Cod

BOSTON - The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum today announced the opening of a special new display capturing the Kennedy family’s summers on Cape Cod. "Presidential Getaway: JFK on Cape Cod" features several never-before-displayed artifacts, including the recently restored golf cart that President Kennedy used on Cape Cod for joyrides with his children and that was famously featured on the cover of Look magazine in January 1962.

New Twitter Project Connects JFK’s Words to Current Events

BOSTON, MA – On June 10, the anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s seminal address at American University on the prospect of peace in the nuclear age, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library launched a new Twitter account connecting President Kennedy’s words and ideas to modern issues and current events. The feed – @JFKsaid – will be populated entirely by quotations from the nation’s 35th President.

JFK Library to Update and Enhance Museum

BOSTON, MA – The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum today announced a plan to make notable technology and design upgrades to the museum exhibits. The project will include overhauling and adding to the existing museum technology infrastructure, creating an immersive, interactive experience that will engage new audiences in learning about John F. Kennedy, his era, and his administration in fresh and dynamic ways. More than half of a $2.25 million gift from David M. Rubenstein, co-founder and co-chief executive officer of The Carlyle Group, given in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Presidency, will be used to help fund the project. The work will begin in November 2014.

Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in recognition of the political courage he demonstrated when he agreed to a 1990 budget compromise that reversed his 1988 campaign pledge not to raise taxes and put his re-election prospects at risk. Bush’s granddaughter, Lauren Bush Lauren, accepted the award on behalf of the former President. Paul W. Bridges, former mayor of Uvalda, Georgia, was also honored for risking his mayoral career with his decision to publicly oppose a controversial immigration law in Georgia.

California High School Student Wins National John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Boston MA –The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation today announced that Ben Wolman, a freshman at Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades, California has won the national John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest for High School Students. Wolman’s prize-winning essay describes the political courage of former Colorado State Senate President John Morse, who in March 2013 risked his career to lead the passage of new gun safety measures. Wolman will be honored during the May 4, 2014 Profile in Courage Award ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. He will also receive a $10,000 award for his first-place essay.

Rare JFK Superman Comic Book Story “Superman’s Mission for President Kennedy” at JFK Library

BOSTON, MA – The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum today announced that it has unveiled a special new display of rare Superman artwork created by legendary comic book artist Al Plastino featuring President John F. Kennedy. The story, told in ten hand-drawn story boards, was written in collaboration with the Kennedy White House in an effort to promote the President’s initiative encouraging physical fitness. The never-before-displayed original artwork will be shown in the Library’s museum through September 1, 2014.
