Thank you very much, Senator, Vicki, Caroline and Ed, other members of the Kennedy family, Paul Kirk. And I say a special word of thanks to all of you who have made this evening possible. I thank Senator Jeffords and Senator Thurmond and Senator Hatch for being here tonight to restrain the partisan impulses that might otherwise overtake Senator Kennedy and me. JFK Library to Offer Free Children's Programs Feb 16-21

As part of its special programming for children, and in celebration of Black History Month, the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum will present “Celebrate! Black History and Culture at the John F. Kennedy Library” — a week-long series of performances focusing on African and African-American history and culture by some of New England’s most noted storytellers, singers, musicians, and dancers.

JFK Library Children's Hour Presents "Daddy King"

January 1, 1998

As part of its special programming for children and their families, and in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum announced that it will host a free performance by noted storyteller Sumner McClain who portrays “Daddy King,” the father of the Civil Rights leader, on Saturday, January 17. The free performance will begin at 10:30 am.

Kennedy; the 1963 Civil Rights Movement; and the African Independence Movement. JFK Library Archivist Receives National Honors

September 10, 1997

Boston — Megan Desnoyers, Archivist of the John F. Kennedy Library, received her profession’s most prestigious honor when she was named a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) at the Society's annual meeting in Chicago, IL, August 28. The distinction of Fellow is awarded to a limited number of individuals in the nation for their outstanding contribution to the archival profession.

Samuel Beer Papers on the Holocaust Available to Researchers

September 6, 1997

In 1945, Captain Samuel Beer worked for the United States military government in Germany immediately after the collapse of the Third Reich. Beer, who is fluent in German, conducted a series of interviews with German officials and citizens about their experiences during the Nazi era. He also wrote analyses of German history and public opinion in post-Nazi Germany. These notes and reports, as well as sixteen interviews are included in the Beer papers at the Kennedy Library. These materials are open and available for research. Another set of these materials is also available in the archives of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.

Kennedy Library Releases 24 Hours of White House Tapes

June 24, 1997

Boston, MA — The John F. Kennedy Library today announced that it has made available for research approximately 24 hours of tape recordings of meetings and conversations that took place in the Oval Office and Cabinet Room at the White House from August through October 1963. The conversations between President John F. Kennedy and his advisors concern U.S. policy toward Vietnam, Laos, Korea, Portuguese Africa, Berlin, China and the USSR.
