Sally Davenport served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania from 1963 to 1965 in an education program. She had previously worked as a congressional intern and spent a summer with Crossroads Africa in Ghana. Davenport trained at Syracuse University. In Tanzania, she worked as an English teacher in an upper primary school in a remote resettlement village on the shores of Lake Victoria.
