Papers of John F. Kennedy. Presidential Papers. White House Staff Files of Walter W. Heller
JFKWHSFWWH-MF74-008
This folder contains material pertaining to the Committee on Financial Institutions, which was formally established in March 1962 to analyze changes in government policy toward private financial institutions that could benefit the economy. Walter W. Heller represented the Council of Economic Advisers on the committee, and was also the committee's chairman (with James Tobin and then Gardner Ackley acting as chairman pro tem). The bulk of the file consists of two separate drafts of the committee's final report, which are dated 3 December 1962 and 19 November 1962. Other types of material include correspondence, memoranda, and press releases. Also of note are minutes from the committee's meetings of 11 March 1963 and 4 April 1962; information on the Advisory Committee on Banking headed by James J. Saxon, Comptroller of the Currency; and an outline of issues falling within the scope of the committee's responsibilities.
