The material is filed roughly in reverse chronological order according to the date of the carbon copy reply. Items include excerpts from speeches by Mario Ramon Beteta of Banco de Mexico; a speech by George E. Gathercole titled "How to do Business Without Really Succeeding"; a market review for mid-January 1963 by Swiss Bank; various printed material regarding the Lincoln Electric Company of Cleveland, Ohio; information on a Plan for Peace by the Federation of the Americas; a questionnaire from the United Nations on economic trends, problems, and policies; and a paper by Bertram M. Gross titled "New Frontiers for the Employment Act."

Topics include a television show about the Presidency, diplomatic representation in Eastern Europe, and a United Nations weekly review by Harlan Cleveland. Of note is a transcript of "The Dialogues of Allan Nevins and Henry Steele Commager" broadcast on CBS (CBS Television Network). Also included in this folder is an article by Schlesinger for the magazine Survey titled "Coexistence vs. Peace."

This folder contains material collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning the Department of State. Materials concern persons recommended for recess appointments in the Foreign Service, a statement by the President concerning the Federal budget for 1962-1963, ambassadorial appointments, a speech by Under Secretary of State Chester Bowles, and a comment on the report of the United Nations General Assembly's investigation into the death of Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo Patrice Lumumba. Of note is a telegram from Ambassador Arthur H. Dean to the President regarding the President's upcoming address on disarmament before the United Nations. Also included in this folder are meeting minutes from the Fourth and Fifth Regional Operations Conferences.

President-elect Kennedy begins the press conference by announcing the appointment of Governor Stevenson as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Governor Stevenson states he has not yet accepted the position, and remarks on the importance of the United Nations.
