Kennedy [JFK] and the aesthetic development of the National Capital Area; JFK’s reaction to the January 1963 issue of the Architectural Forum magazine; new appointments to the Commission on Fine Arts; the development along the shores of the Potomac River; the problem of mass transportation within the District of Columbia; the National Capital Transportation Agency; the development of highways within the District; civil rights marches in Washington, D.C. during the summer of 1963; the attempt to better public higher education in the District; and D.C.’s high crime rates, among other issues.

Unruh, RFK, and the 1968 California presidential primary; Department of Urban Affairs legislation; getting accelerated public works legislation through Congress; Housing and Home Finance Agency staff members; and the attempt to pick up congressional seats in 1962 and 1964, among other issues.

This folder contains material collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning the Department of Commerce. Topics include program activity in the Area Redevelopment Administration, an amendment to the Interstate Commerce Act granting eminent domain to carriers of coal by pipeline, the Pittsburgh Steel Company, and the "E" awards ceremony. Of note is a "Freedom of Communications" report by the Subcommittee on Communications. Also included in this folder is a transcript of a press conference held by Secretary of Commerce Luther H. Hodges.
