Salinger over certain articles; year-end briefings in Palm Beach; and President JFK’s press conferences, among other issues.

Weaver as Administrator of the Housing and Home Finance Agency. Following President-elect Kennedy’s announcement is a statement by Mr. Weaver concerning housing equality. The President-elect goes on to answer questions from the press regarding additional appointments, televised press conferences, and the Cuban refugee program.

This folder contains a transcript of a press conference held by Vice President-elect Lyndon B. Johnson, Senator Robert S. Kerr, and Representative John J. Rooney in Palm Beach, Florida. Vice President-elect Johnson begins the press conference by announcing Senator Kerr as Chairman of the Committee on Aeronautical and Space Sciences and Congressman Rooney as Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee. The Vice President-elect, Senator Kerr, and Congressman Rooney go on to answer questions from the press regarding the space program, the missile gap, and strengthening the foreign service program by appointing career diplomats and increasing representation allowances as needed.

President-elect Kennedy begins by announcing Vice President-elect Johnson as Chairman of the President’s Advisory Council on Space. The President-elect, Vice President-elect, Speaker Rayburn, and Senator Mansfield go on to answer questions from the press regarding the economy, the Federal budget, legislation, and potential changes to Congressional regulations.

This folder contains a transcript of a press conference held by Senator Stuart Symington in Palm Beach, Florida regarding a report on the Defense Establishment. Senator Symington answers questions from the press and gives details of the report including streamlining the Defense Department staff, reducing the time between research and development and production for weapons systems, reducing reaction time for defense of the country, and appropriations procedures. Also included in the report are the creations of a Military Advisory Council, and new positions of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Arms Control.
