Dictation Belt 27D contains four sound recordings. Item 27D.1 is a telephone exchange held on October 12, 1963, between Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs William R. Tyler and a White House Operator. At Tyler's request, the operator places a call to a man whose name sounds indistinct (probably H. Basil Robinson, Minister of the Canadian Embassy in the United States). Machine noise precedes the exchange. Item 27D.1A is a telephone conversation held on October 12, 1963, between Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs William R. Tyler and a man called "Basil" (probably H. Basil Robinson, Minister of the Canadian Embassy in the United States). They discuss releasing a statement and taking other actions to deal with labor issues involving American and Canadian Great Lakes maritime unions. [White House Operator?] announces the call. Item 27D.2 is a telephone conversation held on October 16, 1963, between President John F. Kennedy and Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara. They discuss a strategy for dealing with issues involving Fred Korth and the TFX airplane. The recording begins in mid-conversation. Item 27D.3 is a telephone conversation held on October 21, 1963, between President John F. Kennedy and Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson of Canada. They discuss a strategy for dealing with labor issues involving American and Canadian Great Lakes maritime unions. The recording begins in mid-conversation and ends abruptly.Transcript included.
