Laur Ebone served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guinea from 2013 to 2014 in a merged health and youth program. Her initial invitation to Kenya was cancelled due to a terrorist attack. After transferring to the Guinea program, she trained in Dubreka, where she learned French and stayed with a host family. She was then assigned to Koundara in the Boke region and worked with student peer mentors in the local schools on health education programming. Ebone also assisted the female doctor in the health clinic. Unfortunately, she was quickly evacuated from Guinea after only 10 months due to the spread of the Ebola virus in the country. She was heartbroken about not being able to finish her tour of service, but recalls the many warm interactions she had with people in her host community.
