Map created by Harlan Kirby of both existing and proposed natural gas pipelines in Mexico and the Southwest United States. The map focuses on the proposed Mexican-American pipeline project through Texas (TX), Mexico, and California (CA) which would provide fuel to generate electricity in the Los Angeles area. Existing pipelines shown on the map are in Arizona (AZ), New Mexico (NM), and Texas. Also shown is the planned Rock Springs line to run through Nevada (NV), Utah (UT), Wyoming (WY), Colorado (CO), Oklahoma (OK), and Texas. A caption on the verso of the photograph reads: "Proposed -- Mexican-American natural gas pipeline would span entire Southwest from Gulf of Mexico to Pacific in ambitious plan of Southern California Edison Co. and Tennessee Gas Transmission Co. to obtain uninterruptible supply to generate electricity for Southland. Project (black line), would cost $225 million, save consumers $174 million over 20 year life of contract, provide totally new source of gas from Texas and Mexico. Pipelines now in existence and planned Rock Springs line are shown (dotted lines) which now bring in gas from traditional sources only."
