Televised broadcast of former Captain of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) Katsumori Yamashiro congratulating John F. Kennedy on his victory in the 1960 Presidential election. The event was televised from Tokyo, Japan. Yamashiro was the commander of the Japanese destroyer Amagiri that sank the Motor Torpedo Boat PT-109 commanded by John F. Kennedy during World War II. Yamashiro sent the photograph to President Kennedy with a letter dated January 20, 1961. An inscription on the verso of the photograph reads: "Nippon TV Network Corporation" (also known as Nihon Terebi). A second inscription is in Japanese.
