Kennedy's speech given at a dinner held by the Democratic National and State Committees at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City during his 1960 presidential campaign. In his speech he discusses the strategic importance of the islands of Quemoy (also known as Kinmen) and Matsu in maintaining peace and national security, and addresses concerns over Vice President Richard M. Nixon’s position on the issue.
