Folder Description
This folder contains material pertaining to the Consumer Advisory Council (CAC), which was formally established by the Council of Economic Advisers in July 1962 in order to ensure that the government considered the needs of consumers. Types of material include correspondence, memoranda, press releases, news articles, meeting agendas, speeches, analyses of legislation, and copies of bills. The file includes official CAC statements on various topics such as price increases, quality stabilization, racial discrimination, product labeling and packaging, and the distribution of consumer publications. There is also material on proposed bill S. 750, the Truth in Lending Act, requiring the disclosure of finance charges; an experimental newsletter called "Report to Consumers on U.S. Government Activities" (March 1963); and reports on the consumer activities of various government agencies.
