Boston, MA—Ten large panels of the United in Memory: 9-11 Victims Memorial Quilt are on exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum on September 11, 2002, as part of the Library’s day-long effort to mark this solemn anniversary.

Visitors can view the Quilt free of charge from September 11 through September 30, 2002. On September 11th, the Kennedy Library will be open for extended hours from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All other days, the Library is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This exhibit at the Kennedy Library marks the first time the Quilt has been displayed in Massachusetts.

A global volunteer undertaking, the Memorial Quilt honors each victim of September 11th.  The ten panels on display at the Kennedy Library feature quilt squares honoring 250 victims, including eighteen victims from Massachusetts and New England:

Free Admission and Extended Hours on September 11

On Wednesday, September 11, 2002, admission to the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Library is free, and the Museum’s hours are extended on September 11 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to allow the maximum number of people to view the Quilt and observe the moment of silence at 8:46 a.m.

September 11th Tribute Concert

The Kennedy Library is hosting a free tribute concert, “A Nation Remembers,” from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on September 11 with performances by the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Kuumba Singers of Harvard College. Reservations for the free concert are required as seating is limited and may be made by calling (617) 929-4571.

“Celebrate America’s Freedoms: A Day of Remembrance”

The Kennedy Library’s day of remembrance is part of a nationwide initiative spearheaded by the American Association of Museums, which is promoting September 11, 2002, as an occasion to “Celebrate America’s Freedoms: A Day of Remembrance.”
