FLYOVER DETAILS:

Two F-18s from the Strike Fighter Squadron 131 will be performing a flyover of the JFK Library at 3:00pm on Monday. VFA 131 just returned to the US aboard the USS Eisenhower from a tour of the Arabian Gulf, where they flew combat missions in the fight against ISIS.

The planes will be taking off from Logan and flying a southwest heading over the library at a speed of 250 knots and an elevation of 1,000 feet. They will be best viewed either in front of the library on the terrace or on the lawn behind the library.

BIRTHDAY CAKE DETAILS:

Montilio’s Bakery in Brockton MA will bake a cake fit for a president – a replica of the JFK Library big enough to serve one thousand people.  The bakery has a long relationship with the Kennedy family.  They were commissioned to bake then-Senator John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier’s engagement cake.  Since then, they’ve whipped up cakes to celebrate everything from the dedication of the JFK Library to Rose Kennedy’s 90th birthday.

WHY:  The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is hosting a five-day celebration over Memorial Day weekend to commemorate the centennial of President John F. Kennedy, who was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917. Events and activities included the opening of a new exhibition, JFK100: Milestones & Mementos, and special programs highlighting President Kennedy’s legacy as a champion of peace, inclusion, public service, science and innovation, and the arts. The weekend celebration is part of the JFK Library’s year-long centennial initiative aimed at inspiring new generations to find meaning and inspiration in the enduring values that formed the heart of the Kennedy presidency.
